I'm here to talk about the custom easing in flash8. Mind you, you can always import the file as a lower version of swf. Even it was done on flash 8.
This can be done in the publish setting.

Before in flash 7, we only have the percentage settings for easing out and easing factors. If you wanted to know more about easing in flash, I suggest you go straight ahead to its father, http://www.robertpenner.com/easing/, Robert Penner.

To move forward with our tutorial, Flash 8 also has the functionality of giving percentage for values in easing. However, it also gives us a tool, which you can edit directly how the type of curve of you want for your ease .. That's right custom Easing.

This denotes a relative relation between distance and time. Will this is actually an equation of speed, but I don't want to get all math and all in this tutorial, I'll just show you how to use it, and add a little creativity with it you can make awesome animations with this nifty tool.

Most of the time you'll just use motion, since this is the most obvious one, but you can also control the easing factors of alpha, rotation, and color and filters. But I'll leave that in a different tutorial. For now let's concentrate on movement.

This chart gives us a direct relation between distance and time. Which means, it just gives us a steady speed, with no acceleration / decelleration or whatever.

As you can imagine, this will result to this movement.

The second one, is what we call Easing Out effect, what it does it goes fast at first then slow down at the end.

This is the opposite of above, it goes slow at first and fast at the end.

And lastly, this what flash animators usually use. The bouncing effect, :)

There are so many animation or curve you can do, its all up to your imagination. Hope this tutorial gives you a heads up, so start using custom easing to make your animation run slicker! :)
